Tony Bisbee

Tony Lee Bisbee was born on September 11, 1964, in Watervliet, MI, to Gene and Mary Bisbee. The oldest of four children, he grew up with a deep love for family, hard work, and the great outdoors. He returned to his Heavenly Father on March 2, 2025, in Sarasota, FL, at the age of 60.

Beloved by all who knew him, Tony was known as a hometown athlete, a proud Army veteran, and a respected leader throughout his career. But above all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather—roles he cherished most.

He leaves behind his wife, Matus; his four daughters, Pacita (Chris) Bassler, Johanna (Brandon) Potter, Toni (Zack) Keniston, and Julia (George Mantekas) Bisbee; and twelve grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He is also survived by his parents, Mary and Gene Bisbee; his siblings, Linda Burfield, Steven Bisbee, and Robert Bisbee; as well as many cherished family members and friends.

Tony often talked with those closest about the "Glory days". His life was filled with stories and shenanigans he would tell with a humored grin. Of all these adventures, he found his greatest joy in spending time with his wife, where he was happiest. Tony also had a deep appreciation for nature and working with his hands. Whether fishing, golfing, hunting, gardening, working on cars, or building something special for his wife, he was happiest with the sun on his face and a day's hard work behind him.

From 1984 to 1987, Tony served in the United States Army as an infantry soldier. His service took him to Houston, Texas—where he met the love of his life, Matus—and then to Germany for an overseas tour.

Later, he pursued his passion for the outdoors, earning a degree in Turfgrass Management from Michigan State University in 2000. Throughout his career, he oversaw the grounds of some of the most prestigious country clubs in the nation, including the PGA Championship in 2006. In his later years, he enjoyed working with his favorite crew at Leibolds Irrigation before spending his final working years under the Florida sun.

Tony was known for his humor, warmth, and charm—a man whose presence could brighten any room. In life, he was the heartbeat of his family and a beloved member of many communities. In death, he will be remembered for the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the legacy he leaves behind.

A public service will be held on Saturday March 22nd at United Methodist Church located at 425 E. Main St.  in Hartford, Michigan. The service will begin at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of refreshments and light hors d'oeuvres to follow for an opportunity to connect with friends and family.
