Robert McCreery, D.D.S Obituary

A LIFE WELL-LIVED

Robert Joseph McCreery, D.D.S., and Lieutenant Commander, USN, joined the other Angels in Heaven on November 8, 2025, at the age of 87.
He was enormously loved by his wife of sixty-six years, Eleanor Ann Wallbank McCreery, Ph.D., and his sons, Robert William McCreery of Five Dock, NSW, Australia, and Ossian John Carlson McCreery of Columbus, Ohio.
Bob was born in Youngstown, OH. He was a student at The Rayen High School and, later, The Ohio State University. He practiced dentistry for forty-four years.
He was a Ship Captain, a glass blower, a blacksmith, a noted woodworker, a talented three-dimensional artist, an adventurer, a scholar, a lover of chemistry, and a fancier of Shakespeare whom he often quoted.
He was a huge fan of his sons’ sports and activities of all kinds, attending every game and event — never missing one!
Bob was a truly honest ethical good man.
He lived many places from Puerto Rico to Alaska with most years in Ohio. He loved each place! Additionally, he was very widely traveled and had treasured friends the world over.
On his 66th wedding anniversary, he said, “Let’s go for 100!” Bob loved life and, even though he was told that his heart was doing great and that his main cancer was gone – he was told that he could “ring the bell” at the cancer hospital -- he suddenly grew increasingly weak.
He loved life! He valiantly tried to live. He was smiling and determined until the end!
Both sons arrived on the last day to visit with their weakening Dad. No one realized how frail Bob was, nor that his final hours had come. His sons each arrived at the airport an hour too late to be with their much-loved Dad.
Bob loved birds and animals! He thrilled to the sighting of many animals in their natural wild habitat. Over time, the variety of dogs he had ranged from three to two hundred pounds. He was active in professional, church, school, scouting, and other communities serving on the Dental Society Ethics Committee and on the Perrysburg, Ohio, Historic Preservation Committee, being a Scout Den Master,  plus many other committees and boards.
Bob had many highly-valued friends and patients from all cultures and ethnicities, liking and treating all with love and care.
Bob’s main sport was skiing. His passions, after his wife and sons, were his work, his artistic feats/endeavors, and boating on lakes and seas.
Bob loved life and gave all he could to living it fully.
In all ways – Robert J. McCreery savored A LIFE WELL-LIVED!
