Robert L Griffin

Robert (Bob) Lynn Griffin was born on September 23, 1942, in Indianapolis, IN. He was adopted
by his parents Edward Francis and Ruth Griffin (Child) and moved to Long Beach, California at
the age of 6. Bob attended Long Beach Polytechnic High School graduating in 1960, he was a
member of the Phi Delta Sigma Fraternity and known as “Griff”.

Bob joined the military on November 26, 1962 and after basic training went into the US Army
Medical Department as a medical specialist. He was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he
met his wife Margaret Griffin (Seyfert). Bob and Margaret were married on October 27, 1964. In
1965, Bob transferred back to the US as a Radio/TV System Specialist where he was stationed
for training in multiple bases including Fort Belvore, Virginia and Fort Monmouth, New Jersey.
He served a year in Korea and worked for the American Forces Korea Network - Radio.
Bob was then stationed at Fort Stewart, Georgia – a US Army training post for flight training.
In the summer of 1970, he started a 6-year tour of duty at the US Army Berlin Brigade, as the
Director of the US Army Video Training Library. In Berlin he completed his Bachelor of Science
at the University of Maryland in Psychology.

In 1976 Bob was stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta Georgia where he worked for the US
Army Signal Corps Training Center. Bob earned his first graduate degree, a Masters in Ethics
and Organizational Behavior from the University of Pepperdine. After a brief stint at the Armed
Forces Intelligence Training Center in Denver CO he retired from the US Army in 1983.
During his service he earned the National Defense Service Medal; the Armed Forces
Expeditionary Medal; the Army Occupational Medal (Berlin); the Army Commendation w/OLC
Medal; and the Army Achievement Metal.

Bob worked as a professor of Business at Phillips College in Augusta GA from 1983 to 1991
and earned a Master of Education Degree from Augusta University in 1984.

Bob and Margaret moved to Virigina in 1991 where Bob worked for the Fort Eustis Army
Education Center as part of the editing team for the Soldiers Manual of Common Tasks and
Warriors Skills – distributed to every new enlisted soldier in the US Army. He earned the
Commanders Award for Civilian Service in 1994 and the Department of Army Achievement
Medal for Civilian Service in 1997 for over 30 years of Government Service.

Bob was an avid “Trekky” - Star Trek and M*A*S*H fan and enjoyed events with the German
Club in Georgia and Virginia. He had a lifelong passion for photography and music with an
expansive collection of 45 rpm records. Bob had a passion for animal welfare and was
president of the Augusta Humane Society.

Bob passed on June, 3 rd in 1998 after a short battle with lung cancer.

Bob was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his daughters Anita
Wilson (Robert) and Beatrice Spoerl (Scott), by his grandchildren Alexandria Eberhardt (Jamie),
Jacob Spoerl and Joshua Spoerl and by his great-grandson Aizen Eberhardt.
