Robert (Bob) Genua, age 88, born and raised in Waterbury, CT, passed away peacefully here at home in Sarasota, FL on February 2nd, 2023.
Bob was the son of, and predeceased by, his parents (Rocco and Frances Genua) as well as by his brother (Richard Genua).
His loving Family, friends, neighborhood explorations and his friendships and experiences there were all building blocks leading to the unique, interesting, solidly fine and adventurous man he grew to be. The life that he led all starting in Waterbury, a remarkable character-building launching pad, provided for him and for so many, all the right ingredients for making such a positive mark in this world.
Bob earned a degree in business management from The University of Connecticut. Following next while becoming a Major in the US Air Force, Bob was stationed in various US locations (Texas, Oregon, Tennessee, Washington, DC and Massachusetts), as well as in Japan. After 12 years in the Air Force Bob went on to pursue his business career taking him to NY, CT and later DC.
Bob was a rare individual as he continually excelled in his various work arenas: Air Force, Corporate positions in NY, then business owner and manager in the patent industry in Alexandria, VA. In each of these areas (military, corporate and entrepreneurial) he was highly regarded and appreciated by employees as well as top corporate entities. He invariably rose to the top because of his intelligence, competence, original thinking and trustworthiness. As expressed by a friend and associate, Bob was a stand-up guy who could always be counted on to do the right thing.
Bob had a can-do attitude combined with follow through in everything he did in life. He was humorous and positive, yet eyes-wide-open realistic. Bob participated in many sports and athletic pastimes (fishing, boating, firearms, golf, skiing, ice skating) and had his hand in playing various musical instruments. In the meantime he was also a successful published author of several books.
And now Bob is truly With God.
How grateful we are to have had Bob Genua in our lives.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, June, of Sarasota, his 4 children (Debra Genua Philpot, Mark Genua, Sharon Genua, Melissa Gardiner), 7 grandchildren, and his niece and nephew.
