John DeSando – April 28 1923 – February 11, 2026 of Sarasota Florida, formerly of Groveland Massachusetts.
Husband, stepfather, grandfather, great grandfather and uncle passed away peacefully on February 11th.
Formerly of Groveland and Haverhill Massachusetts, he was proud to be a US Navy Veteran. John entered the service on November 14, 1942 at the US Naval Training Station in Newport, RI. He spent 19 months overseas as a Torpedoman 2nd Class on PT Boat 192. Discharged on January 26, 1946, he received service ribbons including Asiatic -Pacific with 2 battle stars; American Theater. Personal Awards: Presidential Unit Citation with 1 star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon, and Good Conduct Medal.
After honorable discharge from the Navy, he was bartender and head chef at the original Roma Restaurant in downtown Haverhill MA. John eventually retired from Gare Ceramics.
John was married to his wife Jeannette for 47 years until her passing in 2016.
He was the last surviving member of his 8 siblings. Ralph, Dominic, Leo, Angie, Vito, Susie, Richard and his stepbrother Dominic.
