John Cove Obituary

John Michael Cove, age 80, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on January 21 st , 2024.
John was born in Worcester, Massachusetts November 21 st 1943 to John Francis and Marie McDonald
Cove. He spent the first 5 years of his life in MA before the family moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. John was
a rambunctious kid and as you can imagine, there was a wealth of things for a young boy to be
interested in growing up in south Florida. Being surrounded by the water, his love of fishing and all
things related to the outdoors was established at an early age.

John was educated at Saint Anthony School through childhood and graduated from Central
Catholic High School in 1961. After graduating, John felt called to military service and enlisted in the
Army. There he was a member of the 173 rd Airborne Brigade and 5 th Special Forces Group during the
Vietnam war. After being honorably discharged from the Army, John went on to continue his education
at the University of Florida. During this time, he discovered that he had knack for marketing and

John met the love of his life, Patricia Nagy, while working in the advertising department at
Realtec. They married May, 27 th, 1972 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL and would have been married for 52 years
this May. After spending their first few years of marriage in Florida, they moved to Georgia in 1975.
From there, John continued his career in advertising and raised a beautiful family. Then came his
fascination with the emerging technology of computers. He dove in head first and learned all he could
about the new personal computer concept. Ever the entrepreneur, John decided to open his own
computer tech/ networking business in 2010 which he ran until he finally decided to retire in 2023.

John was a sociable man who never met a stranger. He went above and beyond for the people
he loved and had no problem dropping everything if someone was in need. Throughout his life he had
many passions including journalism, fly fishing, diving, classical guitar, woodworking, football, politics,
computer programing and sparring with his mother-in-law as to who was the better composer,
Beethoven or Bach. These diverse interests led him to connect with many different people, all of whom
would call him a loyal friend. His smile, patriotism, great sense of humor and intensity will be greatly
missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a true American. John was preceded in death by his son,
John Brian Cove. He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, daughter, Karen Hatchell, son-in-law, Kyle
Hatchell, granddaughters, Makayla Powell, Makenzie Hatchell, Lilly Cove and grandson, Colton Cove.
