Beloved husband and father, James Robert Lewis (84) of Scranton, Pennsylvania passed away on Sunday, March 12 after facing cancer with much bravery and strength. He retired from American General Life Insurance at age 77 and moved from Richmond, VA, to Sarasota, FL to enjoy his later years.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Beth Lewis; his aunt, Ruth Job; his parents-in-law, Isabel and Joseph Harris; his dearest sister-in-law, Fran Harris; and his canine buddy, Vinny.
He is survived by his dedicated wife of 37 years, Jo Lewis; his loving daughter, Amanda, and amazing son-in-law, Will Tate; his brother-in-law, Ron Harris, and his wife, Paula; his sister-in-law, Patsy Hough; his nieces, Sheri Collins and Brittany Marklin; and his nephews, Stan Spry, Toby Spry, and Wil Collins; as well as many kind friends and neighbors who enriched his life.
A Navy Veteran and man of many nicknames, Jim was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed rooting for the University of Virginia, the New York Yankees, and the Washington Commanders. He engaged in good-natured trash talking during any and all games and relished every opportunity to compete.
A lover of all animals, Jim never met a dog he didn’t like, or a dog who didn’t like him. He was always quick to laugh with others and easily laughed at himself. He was loved dearly by many and will be greatly missed.
Jim lived in the present. In his honor, please raise a glass, play a game with your loved ones, and give your furry friend a pat on the head. The family asks that those who are able make a donation to their local animal shelter.
