James D. Bastin

James D. Bastin passed away on December 2, 2023 in Sarasota at age 96. He was born on August 10, 1927 in Spencer, Indiana, and moved to Sarasota from Ellettsville, Indiana in 1967.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He was retired from the Engineering Division of the Sarasota County Transportation Department. He was a member of the Sarasota Elks Lodge No.2495, the V.F.W., a past Commander of the American Legion, and a past Commodore of the Sarasota Outboard Club.

He is survived by his step-daughter Linda J. Clendening (Gary) of Ellettsville, Indiana, and his step-son Larry L. Sims (Rita) of North Port, Florida; brothers Jack (Carol) and Phil (Trudy) of Bloomington, Indiana; six grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Kathryn M., as well as by his father Emsley "Happy" Bastin, mother Lona Bastin, four brothers, and one sister.

Services will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery at 1:00pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023.
