Harry Reubush, 92, passed away peacefully in Sarasota, Florida on July 2, 2024. He was born in Penn Laird, Virginia on July 18, 1931 to Charles Brown Reubush and Vada Hinkle Reubush. He was the youngest of five children raised in the Shenandoah Valley where his family has lived for more than eight generations.
Harry is survived by wife Elizabeth “Libbie” Fletcher Reubush and three daughters: Leigh Holt, Suzanne and Clyde Birchard, and Lori and Francis “Mac” McNabb. Harry enjoyed life with a large and happy family; he leaves nine grandchildren,15 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife Judith “Judy” Flora Reubush and son Charles “Charlie” Brown Reubush.
After graduating from McGaheysville High School, Harry served in the Air Force, and graduated from the University of Lynchburg. He worked as a biologist for the state of Virginia before beginning his career in pharmaceuticals. He worked for Merck Sharp & Dohme and Allergan, and retired from Alcon in 1986, where he was Vice President of Professional Relations. Later, he served as President and Chairman of Meadowbrook Inc., overseeing the management of nursing homes, assisted living centers, senior apartments, and child care facilities.
Harry was the only member of his family to leave Shenandoah Valley. He lived in Florida, California, Texas, and Georgia, but Virginia was always home. He enjoyed traveling and exploring the world, and visited every state, 65 countries, and six continents. Harry cherished his family and valued his many lifelong friendships. He was kind, generous, and fun. His curiosity and creativity showed in his life and work.
A memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 1:00 p.m., in the Sunnyside Meredith Chapel, (Carson Building, 3935 Sunnyside Drive, Harrisonburg, Virginia).
