Gerald Kessinger, born on August 30, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026, in Sarasota. He was 85 years old.
Gerald lived a life marked by dedication, skill, and quiet strength. After graduating from high school, he joined the Navy.
A proud veteran of the United States Navy, Gerald served his country honorably for 14 years, including three tours during the Vietnam War. His service reflected his steadfast character and deep sense of duty.
He began a career as a master electrician specializing in air conditioning and refrigeration. His expertise and strong work ethic earned the respect of all who knew and worked with him.
Gerald found great joy in rebuilding antique cars and trucks, a hobby that showcased his patience, precision, and appreciation for craftsmanship. He also loved reading, which brought him quiet enjoyment and reflection.
Family was the center of Gerald’s life. He is survived by his daughters, Cary Dyer (Jeff) and Dana Grey (Michael); his sister,
Ruth Ann Thweatt; daughters-in-law, Cindy Lauterberg and Lynn Kessinger; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol Kessinger, and his sons, Paul Lauterberg and Guy Kessinger, all of whom he held close to his heart throughout his life.
Though he was a man of few words, Gerald’s love for his family was unwavering and deeply felt by those who knew him. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
A memorial service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 1:30 PM at Sarasota National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Gerald’s life.
