Gene Rump

Gene was born in Lafayette, Indiana and spent his first eleven years there until his family moved to St. Louis,
where he spent the next 50 years.

Gene joined the navy reserves while in high school and served six years in Japan, a country for which he
developed a fondness.

On his return, Gene was employed for 35 years at McDonald Douglas aircraft as an expeditor. He became a
single parent. He raised his children for five years alone. He became friends with his neighbor Sharon, and
they soon married and became a blended family of three girls and five boys. They have since celebrated their
fiftieth wedding anniversary.

To supplement their income Gene started a landscaping business, and drove the Zamboni at the local skating
rink - how many of us have dreamed of driving one of those?

Their life changed when Gene had a heart attack at age 57 and took the option of early retirement.
Gene and Sharon moved to Sarasota and have enjoyed 33 years in their paradise.

When the Bears or the Cubs are playing, you know one of their most loyal fans will be cheering them on.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

A celebration of life will be held at Oakwood Manor on Friday, April 28 at 11:00 AM.
