Hixson Pugh, age 97, graduated to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 26, 2025. He was preceded in
death by his bride of 67 years, Mary Pugh. Hixson was born and raised in Middle Tennessee. He served
in the US Navy during World War II. He, Mary and their 3 children lived in Murfreesboro where he
worked at Middle Tennessee State University and was a founding member of World Outreach Church.
Upon retirement at age 60, he and Mary resided and served the Lord Jesus at Christian Retreat in
Bradenton, Florida. He was known by his nickname “Hallelujah Hixson”. The phrase “Hallelujah “ was
both a greeting and a response to whatever life might bring. Hixson is survived by his son Alan (Elaine),
son Glen (Lisa) and daughter Carolyn (Maurice). From there the flock increased to 10 grandchildren, 20
great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Christian Retreat Tabernacle on Sunday, February 9, 2025
at 3 pm. Burial is scheduled for February 25, 2025 at Veterans Cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Christian Retreat.
