Eberhard “Hardy” Weickert, 92, of Sarasota, Florida passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025. He was born on July 22, 1933 in Berlin, Germany to Erich and Wera (Stredecke) Weickert. He worked as a tool and die maker for a foundry in Brunswick, Germany before immigrating to the United States in October 1956 sponsored by the First Lutheran Church in Compton, California. In December of 1956, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin until 1960. On October 1, 1960 he married Elinor Kamps at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Platteville, Wisconsin. His love for aviation led him to take flying lessons followed by his first job as a pilot in 1964 with TAG airlines. In 1965, he started flying with Ozark Airlines in St. Louis working his way up to Captain of the DC-9. He retired in 1989 and moved to Sarasota, Florida with Elinor. He is survived by his brother, Horst and wife Rita Weickert of Germany; and his brother-in-law’s wife, Delores (George) Kamps of Belmont, Wisconsin; along with 9 nephews and 3 nieces. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elinor who died June 11, 2021; and his two brothers-in-law, Frederick Kamps 2018 with wife Diana Kamps 2003, and George Kamps 1996; his father in 1974 and his mother in 2005. Burial will be at the Sarasota National Cemetery on November 17, 2025.
