Donald B. Campbell (“Don”) passed away peacefully on Friday, July 14, 2023. Born September
2, 1945 in Glens Falls, NY to Joseph and Jennie (Morehouse) Campbell. Don has been a resident
of Sarasota, Florida since he was two months old and had always considered himself a “native
Floridian.” He served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. Shortly after returning stateside, he
began working for Florida Power & Light, where he worked for 37 ½ years. Don was a natural
musician, playing guitar and singing country music. Don and several friends had a band called
“The Ugly Bunch”, later renamed “Flatland Express” for many years. Don continued his love of
music and entertaining people for many years at Bee Ridge Park on Thursday evenings and at
Craig’s Campground in Arcadia.
Don is predeceased by his parents, Joe and Jennie (Morehouse) Campbell, and leaves behind
his wife of 53 years, Katherine (“Karin”) Campbell, his daughter, Teri Gibbs (husband Eric),
grandson, Blake Rathfelder, great-grandson, Bryson Rathfelder, granddaughter, Caitlin Burgoon
(husband Justin), great-grandchildren, Cailey Burgoon and Cole Burgoon, his brother, Kenneth
Campbell (wife Barbara), nieces and nephews, Susan Tower Camp (husband Mark), Tammy
Campbell (Angie Ross), Jennifer Campbell, Harold Campbell, Nolan Campbell, and his brother,
Nolan Campbell, nieces and nephew, Jennifer Campbell Gehrke (husband Rick), Nyla Campbell
StClair (husband Joe), and Alan Campbell (wife Diana), as well as many beloved family and
friends.
Military honors ceremony at Sarasota National Cemetery will be Friday, September 1, 2023, at
10:30 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Sarasota Farm Bureau, 7289 Palmer Blvd.,
Sarasota, FL 34240, on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sarasota Tidewell Hospice.
