David Brown Obituary

David Alexander Brown, 84, of West Hartford, CT and Sarasota, FL passed away peacefully with loving family by his side at Tidewell Hospice Care on May 13, 2023 after a courageous 8 year battle with cancer. He was born July 17,1938 in Hartford, CT to John and Alice (McCorkle) Brown.

After graduating Hall High School (West Hartford), he began his entrepreneurial journey through life by starting Brown’s
Automotive at the age of l8. His integrity, wisdom, honesty, hard work, intuitive business sense and mechanical skills
provided the basis for success in all his endeavors including his real estate development projects and his commercial real
estate business, David Brown Associates, which he owned and operated until his passing. His pride as an American was
unmistakable; the American flag could be seen flying above every property he owned.

With the help of his three young children and his passion for skiing, he built a home at Okemo Mountain in Vermont where he enjoyed 40 years of happy times with family and friends. On his sailboat “Kanga”, he cruised throughout New England, participating in offshore races to Nova Scotia, the Bahamas and numerous times to Bermuda where he proudly placed 2nd in his class in the Marion to Bermuda Race. He was a member of the Baldwin and Shennecossett Yacht Clubs. As an expert mechanic, he had a passion for cars and became an antique car collector and restorer—especially Model A Fords, often serving as a judge at country-wide conventions. The drive to break 80 at golf eluded him, but he experienced that wonderful feeling of a hole in one at Rockledge Golf Club. As an avid sports fan, he had much enjoyment watching NASCAR races, the UCONN Huskies, and experiencing the exhilaration of attending a Superbowl Game. Many happy family memories include skiing in Europe, camping cross country, his 70th birthday cruise, and most importantly watching his family all become the wonderful people they are.

He was a mentor to and Mr. Fixer for family, friends, and neighbors and was pleased to be asked to help—staying idle
was not his thing but reading manuals and figuring out “why” were. From his workshop and garage he repaired, made,
taught, inspired, and improvised. Community endeavors included serving on the West Hartford Finance Advisory Board, director for the First Bank of West Hartford, director for AAA West Hartford, member of the West Hartford Chamber of Commerce, and the West Hartford Rotary by whom he was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.

He is survived by his devoted and loving wife Leslie Brown and his children--Doug (Cathy) Brown of Murrells Inlet, SC;
Alan (Vicky) Brown of West Hartford, CT and Dawn (Ed) Jaworski of Hilton Head, SC; sister, Ethel (James) Gardiner of
Lancaster, PA and seven wonderful, cherished grandchildren: Tyler, Dylan, Kyle, and Ryan Jaworski; Matthew, McKenzie
and Kevin Brown; nieces and nephews; and many great friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his
brother, Robert Brown, and his sisters, Lillian Shuylze and Esther Vann.

With much gratitude, the family extends their sincerest thanks to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, St. Francis Hospital, Dana Farber/Brigham and Tidewell Hospice and all the physicians, nurses, and support staff for their excellent medical service and compassionate care.

In his memory, contributions can be made to the Manchester Community College (MCC) Foundation, P.O. Box 1046,
