Charles McWhirt, Jr. of Sarasota, Florida passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, June 4, 2023. He was born in Gas City, IN, on July 13, 1927. He served in the U.S. Army at Letterman General Hospital, in San Francisco, CA, until he was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Charles returned to Indiana and worked at Harwood Trucking Company in Gas City until starting a 30-year career with Dana Corporation in Marion, IN.
Charles was one of 11 children born to Charles A. McWhirt, Sr. and Lucy Anna (Annie) McWhirt, and he was their last surviving child. Her never married; however, he provided a home for his mother and niece, Lana Bruce, until his mother’s death. He was loved and admired by all who knew him, especially his many nieces, nephews and their children. Charles had nine brothers and two sisters: Paul, Luther, Everett, Mary, Cedric, Garold (Gene) Margaret, David, Robert (Bob), and Fred.
For many years Charles was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Marion, IN, where he was ordained an Elder in 1960.
Charles retired from Dana Corporation and spent the next 20 years in Las Vegas, NV. There he made many new friends and enjoyed playing keno and taking in the entertainment. At the age of 75, Charles moved to Sarasota, FL to be nearer family and start the final leg of his journey. He enjoyed 20 years in Sarasota and continued to shine his light and enjoy family and friends.
