Carl Kurt Maurer, 80, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away on June 28, 2025 surrounded by his family.
Carl was born in Milford, CT on October 20, 1944, the son of Friedrich and Edna Maurer. He was a 1962 graduate of the Milford School, attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York and was a Marine Corps veteran.
Following 20 years with Maurer Metalcraft in Milford, he went on to establish North Madison Wine and Spirits in Madison specializing in fine and rare wines.
An avid sportsman, Carl was particularly dedicated to youth programs, coaching Little League Baseball for 13 years and was instrumental in the creation of the Milford Youth Soccer program and the eventual establishment of soccer as a varsity sport at Milford High School where he served as head coach for a number of years. Carl served on the Milford Parks and Recreation Commission in the early 70’s when the former Camp Clark, a 333 acre parcel of land, was designated as Eisenhower Park and began its transformation into a multi-faceted recreational site.
Carl leaves behind Deborah, his wife of 59 years, their 2 daughters Brigitte Maurer, Karin Engstrom (Todd), their 4 grandchildren Joshua and Jessica Saffiotti and Megan and Sarah Engstrom, his sister Regina Missett, his brother Friedrich Maurer (Bonnie), his sister-in-law Dinah Virgulto and numerous nieces and nephews.
Celebrations of life will be held in Milford, CT and in Port Charlotte, FL at a later date.
