Barton Parks Gifford Sr., 89, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away on September 15, 2024. A dedicated family man and esteemed tax preparer, Barton's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his profession, and love of his fellow man.

Barton was born on August 1, 1935, and devoted 56 years of his life to Gifford & Associates as a Tax Preparer, a career that showcased his meticulousness and integrity. His military service in the Army further exemplified his dedication and service to the country.

He is survived by his children, Harry VanWhy Jr., Catherine Hunter, Kitty Behnke, Marzy Baker, Bart Gifford Jr., Mike Gifford, and Tammy Gilleo; along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory. Barton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Gifford; his son, David VanWhy Sr.; grandchildren David VanWhy Jr. and Janice Hunter; great-grandchildren, Catherine Darling and Danielle Darling; his parents, Barton Gifford and Thelma Parks; and sister Beverly Gifford.

Barton's interests were as varied as they were passionate; he enjoyed peanut butter, spending time with his family, eating oysters, playing card games, attending plays, and loved mariachi bands. These activities provided much joy and brought a unique zest to his life and to the lives of those who loved him.

A service to honor Barton's life will be held at Sarasota National Cemetery on October 17th at 12:30 PM. This will be followed by a Celebration of Life at a location in Sarasota that will be confirmed soon.

The Celebration of life will follow the cemetery service at Casey Key Resorts Ball room with food and beverages served.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, an organization close to Barton's heart.
